Most of my tweets were about various birds with the exception of two retweets. One of the exceptions was for a service dog helping out in a lab, and the other was for a clever and tasty way of teaching evolution. The birds I tweeted about were either predator or prey. The Cassowary was one of the birds I tweeted about due to the incredible favoritism evolution showered on it. Whereas the Kiwi bird… not so much. While the Cassowary is enjoying towering all creatures, slashing and dicing everything in its path; the Kiwi bird (Cassowary’s relative) the size of a soda can, has to do the impossible and give birth to an egg half the size of itself.

One of the tweets I retweeted was of our classmate, Alyssa’s tweet of a before and after image of a traditional green lawn and a second image with the caption of, “embrace biodiversity,” filled with bountiful plants and flowers. This reminded me of my favorite childhood game: Plants vs. Zombies, so I couldn’t help but retweet it.

The most interesting thing I have seen probably all week was the Great Potoo bird. It was so fascinating I had to tweet about it. With such a striking visual, I just had to share with my fellow aves researchers. I sure hope someone picks this bird as their topic, if not I will do it!

This week, I have decided to look into chickens, and that reflects onto the accounts I have decided to follow this week. If anyone is interested in chickens like I am, the account I found to be very helpful is: @ChickenJClub. This account, like the name would suggest, is a place for chicken enthusiasts to discuss and share. If you are not looking for poultry but more broad, I would highly suggest checking out @online_BOC. It is where the British ornithologists gather to drop some cool birds from that part of the world. I think it would benefit our research greatly to have data from various parts of the world.

This week, I have responded to three of my peer’s blogs. I first started off with Mars’ (Marissa Nedder) blog, and got to know how her first week of tweeting went. It was not her first time on Twitter so there weren’t any struggles to read about lol, but it was nice to see that her research is inspired by something dear to her. Her dog, Boogie. Following Mars’ blog, I commented on Melody Shyy’s blog. Melody’s blog was a fun trip down memory lane as we both stumbled upon another classmate’s post of “Guess that Animal.” Lastly, I visited Karis Choi’s blog about dog meat trade and pit bull prejudice. If I had to choose two best responses towards these blogs, I would say my best two are my responses to Karis and Melody’s blog. I liked the wonderment I had while writing these two replies. I thought about why Melody chose to bring up a Silverback gorilla’s 25th birthday, and I believe I brought up a good point about Karis’ dog-meat-trade in that there are many stories of beloved dog abductions, but not many reunions.
